ALPINE CHIC STYLE + INNOVATIVE DESIGN = AN ULTRA-SWANK SETTING AT THE OSPREY AT BEAVER CREEK, A ROCKRESORT

Beaver Creek, CO – March 3, 2009 – When The Osprey at Beaver Creek, A RockResort, opened in December 2008, the boutique hotel redefined slopeside style by introducing edgy glamour to the luxury destination. The closest ski-in/ski-out hotel to a chairlift in North America, The Osprey captivates and delights with sophisticated alpine-chic design, 45 guest rooms, a hotspot social scene and playful amenities.

Dallas-based interior architecture and design firm Looney & Associates, teamed with local architecture firm Zehren & Associates, to oversee the $7 million transformation of The Osprey at Beaver Creek, formerly The Inn at Beaver Creek. The design concept relies on the play of light across stone surfaces, the use of natural materials and colors subtly inspired by the location, and the mood-setting power of music.

Upon arrival, guests are immersed in an ambiance of chic urban mountain style. Once in the check-in area, steps lead up to the hotel’s lively center, which is a giant social room with oversized couches and cozy chairs in rustic, worn brown leather and woven textural fabrics adorned with white cotton plush throw blankets. Playful walnut wood blocks can be positioned for use as expandable tables. Guests can kick back and watch a James Dean classic on a flat-screen TV, drum up a board game challenge or face off in a Wii system competition. Capturing the essence of the hotel’s alpine Colorado setting, aspen tree branch art displays are lit to create shadows and add to the open feel of the design by functioning as section dividers.

A spectacular, large limestone fireplace separates the entertainment space from The Osprey Lounge’s dining area, which is complete with a 10-seat raised communal table, ideal for large groups or mixology lessons as offered by the bar staff. A dramatic teardrop Italian glass chandelier radiates light over the space. The trendy Osprey Lounge, offering custom cocktails and a tapas-style menu, was designed using honey onyx, which is backlit to provide a warm glow.

The Osprey’s guest room color palette incorporates warm shades of brown, contrasted with bright bold accents in orange and blue hues. Focal points include the bed’s dramatic seven-foot chocolate leather headboard, as well as a lamp crafted of natural cerused oak wood that integrates the Rocky Mountain setting. The rooms feature a combination of richly textured surfaces such as birch, iron and onyx made from locally sourced stone, indigenous metals, and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)-certified wood. Guests are ensured a comfortable stay with elegant furnishings and the finest linens, in addition to modern amenities, such as flat-screen TVs with DVD players and MP3 player docking stations. Many of the guest rooms feature sleek glass-covered fireplaces with flames that emerge from a base of marble stones. The bathrooms are complete with an oversized marble shower with rainfall showerheads.  The vanities are made of natural cerused oak and flamed uba tuba granite, and lighting from overhead pendants provide a soft glow. 

Throughout the hotel’s public spaces and guest rooms, large vibrant artwork delights the eye with bursts of bright reds, blues, greens and oranges. Signature commissioned pieces have been created by local artists Don Sahli, an apprentice of famous Russian colorist Sergei Bongart, and Rolinda Stotts, who in addition to studies in Italy, is largely self-taught. Additionally, designer Nickie Feddersen of Looney & Associates produced two paintings for the lower lounge area.  All three artists utilize traditional and proprietary techniques to produce paintings that are contemporary and cutting edge.

Keeping with RockResorts’ commitment to the environment, several design elements at The Osprey demonstrate green practices including: low volatile organic compound (VOC) paints, stains and adhesives; natural wool carpet, which is a rapidly-renewable resource; case goods that are sourced and manufactured regionally; stone products extracted and manufactured regionally; energy-efficient lighting fixtures and electronics; and water-efficient plumbing fixtures.

The Osprey offers a fitness facility, steam room and sauna, and a pool deck with outdoor heated pool, lounge seating and a fire pit. The hotel is centrally located in Beaver Creek Resort, a year-round travel destination that is the ultimate setting for outdoor enthusiasts. Guests stepping off the hotel’s back deck can take advantage of a high-speed quad chairlift just 20 feet away, providing access to great skiing and snowshoeing during winter months, and hiking, biking and Nordic activities in the summer season.
